Course Duration

AAE Bengaluru

Course Duration Overview

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program at AAE Bengaluru spans three years, organised into six semesters of six months each. This structure ensures a balanced progression through foundational theory, hands-on practice, and real-world exposure. From the first semester onward, you’ll engage in both classroom learning and workshop sessions, with each semester culminating in formal evaluations of your theoretical understanding and practical skills.

Semester Structure

Each of the six semesters integrates the following elements:

  • Basic Knowledge Training: Classroom lectures covering core subjects such as aerodynamics, aircraft structures, propulsion systems, electrical fundamentals and instrumentation.
  • Basic Knowledge Examination: Written tests at semester’s end to assess comprehension of theoretical modules.
  • Practical Training: Supervised lab work and bench exercises in our eight specialised workshops, where you’ll apply concepts to components like landing gear, hydraulic systems, avionics units and piston/jet engines.
  • Practical Assessment: Hands-on evaluations mirroring real-world maintenance tasks, including fault diagnosis, repair procedures and system tests.

Theory and practical sessions run concurrently each semester to reinforce learning and build confidence before certification.

On-Site Practical Attachments

Beginning in the third semester and extending through to the fifth, you will undertake mandatory practical attachments at approved Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) organisations and airline maintenance units near Kempegowda International Airport. These postings:

  • Place you in an operational environment under the supervision of licensed AMEs
  • Allow you to work directly on commercial and corporate aircraft
  • Help you master workflows such as scheduled checks, unscheduled repairs, line maintenance and documentation

This two-year hands-on component bridges the gap between campus training and industry demands, ensuring you graduate with genuine workplace readiness.

Assessment & Certification

Your progress is measured through two distinct examination streams:

Semester Exams

  • Conducted on-campus under DGCA-approved supervision
  • Cover all modules assigned to the current semester
  • Include both written papers and practical stations
  • Offer one re-sit opportunity within 30 days for any failed subject

DGCA Module Exams

  • Administered by the DGCA’s Chief Examination Office in Bengaluru
  • Held three times per year, with up to four modules per session
  • Successful completion of all modules is required for AME licence issuance
  • Students may re-appear in subsequent sessions for any outstanding modules

By the end of the sixth semester, you will have completed all academic and regulatory requirements for the DGCA AME licence under CAR-147 (Basic), covering either the B1.1 (Mechanical – Aeroplane Turbine) or B2 (Avionics) stream.

Dual Degree Option

AAE Bengaluru offers an optional parallel bachelor’s degree program at no additional tuition cost (students pay only university registration and examination fees). Key features include:

  • Concurrent scheduling: Both AME and bachelor’s degree courses run side by side over three years
  • Separate examinations: You will appear for university exams in your chosen discipline alongside the DGCA module and semester exams
  • Enhanced career pathways : Graduates emerge with an AME licence and a bachelor’s degree, broadening opportunities in airline maintenance, MRO management, aviation research or general engineering roles

Opting for the dual-degree pathway not only deepens your subject knowledge but also elevates your employability across a wider range of technical and managerial positions.

AAE Bengaluru offer BE Aeronautical, BE Mechanical, BE Computer Science, BE Electronics & Communications, BBA Aviation, BSc, BBA (General) courses along with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program.

By combining a rigorous semester-based curriculum, extensive on-site attachments, dual assessment routes and the option to earn a university degree, AAE Bengaluru’s Course Duration & Pattern is meticulously designed to produce fully certified, workplace-ready Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in just three years.
