Frequently Asked Question?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) is the discipline responsible for keeping an aircraft airworthy through systematic inspection, troubleshooting, repair and routine maintenance. AME work follows the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the national requirements of bodies such as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India. By ensuring every component, from engines to avionics, is maintained to exacting tolerances, AMEs uphold the safety and reliability of all flights.

An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer holds a license issued by the national aviation authority under ICAO guidelines. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting pre‑flight and post‑maintenance inspections and tests
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical or electronic faults
  • Performing scheduled overhauls and unscheduled repairs
  • Certifying each aircraft’s airworthiness by signing off maintenance records

Because no aircraft may operate without an AME’s safety certificate, they bear primary responsibility for the aircraft’s condition and the safety of everyone on board.

To enrol in an AME course, you must:

  • Have passed Class XII (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics from a recognised board, or hold a three‑year diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Be at least 17 years old at the time of application
  • Obtain a DGCA‑approved medical fitness certificate (Class II)

(For international applicants) Secure security clearance from the DGCA before admission.
